Enchantment Lakes basin in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness. We accessed this spot by ascending Aasgard Pass from our camp at Colchuck Lake. With 2, 230 feet of elevation gain in less than a mile, the hike up the pass was strenuous and a bit uncomfortable as the wind picked up and it began to snow. There were icicles and ice covering the rocks in the stream that descends the couloir from the pass. At approximately 7,800 feet there’s a big chill as a freak storm moves in. Although we didn’t get the great views, the weather was dramatic and we saw this magnificent wild mountain goat and her kid. I hurried to take this shot as my fingers were freezing. We then hightailed it over the pass and back down to our camp at Colchuck Lake.
